Chicago Blues

Home / Architecture /

Chicago is the birthplace of the modern skyscraper. Nearly a century and a half after the construction of the Home Insurance Building (1885, William Le Baron Jenney) the city continues to reach toward the heavens. Steel, concrete, and glass come together in a seemingly infinite number of iterations in the Windy City, casting long, dramatic shadows over the flat midwestern landscape and the blue waters of Lake Michigan. These photographs, captured in late September of 2021, primarily highlight designs from the Mid-Century era (River City, Marina City) to more recent structures (Bank of America Tower, Vista Tower).
